Q: My boyfriend is an introvert and I tend to be more extroverted. Is this a bad thing?

A: Not at all. Introversion and extroversion are not always as distinct as they seem. I like to think there is a spectrum if you will. Not every introvert is going to isolate in a social situation and not every extrovert is going to be gregarious with everyone. In fact, extroverts may only be more social around those whom they know well and socialize with. They may not be that way with others. Both introvert and extrovert types may only come out of their shell in the right circumstances; so with the two of you, it would be good to discover together what types of things you enjoy as a couple vs. a group. . Do you like to do things with others or be more to yourselves? Be willing to compromise and strike a balance that works. The introvert/extrovert scale can also change as you age.

If you take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, you will have specific introvert/extrovert types yet this is not cast in stone. Several years later you could take the inventory and change the scale of your type. There is no good, bad, right or wrong. Be comfortable in your own skin and communicate what works for each of you as individuals and as a couple.
