Q: I just became a grandmother and while this is such a joy, I am feeling the aging process take hold. Is there a difference between aging and feeling old?

A: Aging and feeling old is really your perception of how you choose to see it. There is chronological age and emotional age. Chronological age is the number of years you are on this earth. Your emotional age can be many things. You can see it from the positive aspect from entering your wisdom years to the negative aspect of resentment and focusing on despair rather than integrity. There is a huge difference however between aging and feeling old. Aging is a natural process where we pass through developmental stages of life. It’s what we project onto the aging process that determines how we view the process.

Try to focus on all you have going for you. You have a new grandchild. In your aging process If you can feel whole and balanced in mind, body, spirit, and emotions, then you are in harmony and integrated with the whole of life. Check-in with yourself and focus on all of the good in your life. You have a choice. Why not choose to be happy with who you are and your choices will determine how well you age.
