Q: I would like to try telehealth counseling. Is this something that could work?
A: With the Covid virus still with us, many therapists have taken courses to provide telehealth counseling. With the increased need for services, telehealth is a valuable means to discuss current issues a client is experiencing. Some clients like to talk via telephone, others like zoom sessions or facetime. It is important that you as the client have a private place to have your session. Know that confidentiality is honored just as if you were in the counselors private office.
With so much uncertainty, remote counseling is definitely becoming increasingly more popular. When selecting a therapist, inquire about remote counseling and if it is offered. Some clients prefer to see the therapist in person initially, then follow up remotely. There are therapists who offer in office counseling with masks and distancing. You may want to select a therapist who is licensed in your state, and interview the therapist to see if you feel comfortable to have remote sessions.
Telehealth offers flexibility right from your own home and can be every bit as beneficial as in person counseling.
