Why do people try to control others?

Q: Why do people try to control others?

A: Control is a way to have power over others through fear. We control out of fear. Fear can emerge from distrust of self and others, therefore, we feel overwhelmed and helpless, thus control. One way to reduce the amount of control is to work on accepting that at times it’s natural to feel fear. Author Ram Dass invites us to invite the fear in for tea. I agree. Talk with your fear and then let him/her know the fear no longer serves you and you are moving on. The only thing you will control is yourself by learning to feel in control as opposed to out of control because that is when the fear and anxiety come in.

Once you can learn to trust yourself, it will be easier to control less and trust more. When things don’t always work out the way we want them to or expect them to, trust that the Universe has something better planned and you don’t have to try and control anyone.

Trust the process.
