How to Be More Patient

Q: I realize that I am an impatient person and I want to be more patient, but it’s not going very well. Can you please tell me some ways I can become more patient?

A: If you were to ask most people if they are patient, I think you would get an overwhelming no. We humans like what we want now, yesterday, and heck if we are about to wait! We tend not to be patient when we have an expectation and that expectation isn’t met. It can be so difficult when we want something and feel that we practice patience then our desire doesn’t come to fruition. It’s okay to feel and acknowledge the impatience you feel when your needs have not been met. You may feel angry and disappointed. What’s important is to feel the feelings and then let them go. In other words, surrender.

What can be helpful is to feel the feelings and give gratitude for all the gifts you do have as opposed to what you don’t. I once heard that when you give gratitude on a daily basis, the gifts come back tenfold. It is true.Begin to fully appreciate and accept all that you do have, and patience will begin to emerge.
